it shouldn't be a compromise … !
PLEASE NOTE: No foal is weaned under six months of age, foals are soft weaned and this can take weeks, foals are weaned in small manageable groups. We will not allow any foal to leave un-handled and will not be rushed through this delicate procedure, we give our foals the very best start to ensure they can handle the next phase in their lives - all owners will be notified when their foal is ready to leave.
We operate on a first come first serviced basis, but do suggest you continue to email us with your wish list.
OUR PROMISE TO YOU - All foals are:
Microchipped * Vaccinated * Wormed * Registered APSB * DNA verified * Colour verified if used for potential breeding in the future. All colts will be gelded before leaving Watermark - The Henderson Technique is used and has been 100% successful.
Watermark welcomes a pre-health inspection which can be organised at short notice. We recommend all purchases are insured, however, this is not compulsory, but common sense advice.
GYPSY COB GENETICS and what you need to know ...
Foal Immunodeficiency Syndrome (FIS).
As with virtually all animals and humans throughout the world, anomalies appear in genetic markers, the Gypsy Cobs have not escaped these anomalies and quite recently have been found to potentially carry Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy (PSSM1) and Foal Immunodeficiency Syndrome (FIS).
The Watermark herd have been tested for FIS and we are pleased to report CLEAR on all the breeding foundation. Subsequently, all foals bred, will be clear FIS through the parent line.
Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy (PSSM1)
The Watermark herd status - we are fully aware of three mares that carry one copy of the PSSM1 gene, they were purchased knowing the gene was present in the markers. Potentially, these three mares have 25 percent chance of passing one copy to foals they produce. The foals will never have two copies as the Watermark stallions are negative carriers.
